Whereas in the past, perhaps a rather simple approach might be taken to the propulsion installation, today owners and operators are looking for both improved economy and environmental friendliness, and an increase in operational flexibility. This has resulted in increasing use of diesel electric arrangements and proposals for multiple thruster installations.
