NUCLEAR PROPULSION FOR CRUISE SHIPS?

The Copenhagen talks on climate change have again brought into focus the need for the maritime industry to play its part in reducing air pollution. A recent study undertaken at City University, London, has linked this responsibility with the fact that the world is running out of oil (a key producer of greenhouse gases) and asked whether there is a radical alternative which might address both issues. The study has looked at the application of nuclear propulsion to merchant vessels, particularly cruise ships, as an answer to both problems.
