The Indian Register of Shipping has opened an office in Piraeus, in its first office outside of Asia. The Greek office is to be the hub of the society's planned European operations. IRS' managing director Sudesh Kumar said the office, under Vice-president RK Kalra, would start with one surveyor and increase the number of staff as business developed. Greece was a natural choice as it hosted Europe's largest shipping community.
