Tank gauging mod saves money

Marine instrumentation specialist PSM has modified its ic1000 tank level transmitters to allow retrofitting to HMS Iron Duke, saving the Royal Navy unnecessary cost and lengthy lead time. HMS Iron Duke, a type 23 frigate launched in 1991, is currently undergoing a mid-life refit involving upgrades to the propulsion, radar and guidance and weapons systems. At an early stage in the tank gauging audit, MOD (N) contractor BAE Systems found that the original tank level transmitters, fitted during construction to tanks containing fuel, lube oil, clean water and bilge waste, were malfunctioning and needed to be repaired or replaced.
