Bunning a fleet of offshore vessels and several shipyards in Saudi Arabia is a double-edged sword for Zamil Offshore, according to the firm's business development, marketing and risk management executive, Hassan Abouraya. "Diversification is good - if one area starts to fall we can compensate for it easily in another," he said. Zamil is a main contractor for state-owned oil major, Saudi Aramco, and its fleet of 80 vessels solely operates for this outfit. The company's shipbuilding and shiprepair division owns and operates two yards in Dammam and one in Jeddah, which means its fleet can be repaired within Saudi territorial waters. "It gives us an advantage in the availability of the vessels, which is nearly at 93%," observed Abouraya.
