Korean antenna manufacturer KNS has developed a 1.2m Ka-band antenna to receive and transmit with O3b Network's medium earth orbit satellites. KNS said a prototype will be ready in March and will be tested in April this year. KNS has also developed a selectable antenna switching system to enable VSAT services to transfer seamlessly between two terminals. The device features an Ethernet interface, automatic satellite beam switching, radio frequency attenuation control and manual antenna selection switches. Operators would need two VSAT antennas if satellite signals are regularly blocked by vessel topside structures.
