Can OR/MS Be a Change Agent in Healthcare?

摘要

Often OR/MS research in healthcare has focused on optimizing the workings of the existing system. In this paper, I have attempted to encourage researchers to be less timid in their goals. One of the great strengths of both analytical and simulation modeling comes from their ability to make predictions about what could happen if we make changes to a system before making these changes in practice. This suggests that OR/MS can be a change agent by giving a rigorous foundation for proposals to make wholesalernstructural changes to our healthcare system.
