A detailed understanding of the current and future regulatory issues in the food industry is important in the development of new products, as well as for maintaining market share for current products and ingredients. Unfortunately, the relative importance of regulatory issues can change quickly depending on many factors, including the political climate and the nature of petitions and complaints hitting the FDA. This paper briefly reviews a number of regulatory topics that could have an effect on the confectionery industry this year.
