Inventory down 94% and production velocity transformed: An incredible 94% cut in materials inventory at Sony Manufacturing in Pencoed left the judges in no doubt as to this extraordinary winner

Sony Manufacturing's auto-insertion PCB production facility at Pencoed, South Wales cut materials and work in progress (WIP) inventory from ￡1.2m to just ￡150,000, and annual scrap from ￡lm to ￡70,000. It also dramatically improved stock accuracy and prediction, slashed machine downtime and improved velocity of production through the entire facility. Much of that was due to real-time materials and machine management.
