Conceptual Aspects of Geosynthetics for Civil Engineering Applications

The technology geosynthetics for civil engineering applications is perhaps scarcely known in India and therefore, their applications have so far remained practically unexplored. On the other hand, the growth of geosynthetics in developed countries has been extensive and diversified. The technology has found its applications in the fields ranging from soil reinforcement to strategic air tension structures. The paper attempts to present basic concepts related to design and construction for common applications of geosynthetics in civil engineering applications. The paper was presented in the Seminar on Geosynthetics held in July, 2000 at SASMIRA.
