Compound Shade Natural Dyeing of Cotton Fabrics with Dyes Extracted from Arecanut, Henna and Pomegranate

Natural dyeing is a technique to dye the textile fabrics with the colors extracted from natural sources like plants, animals, minerals etc. The fabrics are increasingly dyed with synthetic dyes which in most cases appears hazardous to the wearers and those engaged in the dyeing operations. In the present study, the compound shade is produced using 2 color combination dye materials were extracted from three varieties of plant i.e., Areca, Henna and Pomegranate and cotton fabrics were dyed using these natural dyes. Dyeing along with mordanting techniques which included premordanting, simultaneous mordanting and post mordanting was carried out. Study about fastness tests of dyed clothes was undertaken. Large range of shades was obtained because of different mordant technique and 2 combinations of dyes. The color fastness properties of the dyed fabrics were also good.
