Twist is a measure of the spiral turns given to the yarn in order to hold the fibers or filaments together. The behavior of a yarn depends upon the properties of fibers and their arrangement in the yarn body. Proper arrangement of fiber is made by twisting the fibers together which thereby plays an important role in affecting yarn properties. The filaments in a multifilament yarn would fray away if there were no cohesive forces holding them together. Thus, the insertion of twist in fiber assemblies affects tensile properties, diameter and the specific volume of yarn. The main focus of this experimental work is to study the effect of twist on filament yarn characteristics. This paper helps to understand the structure and behavior of yarns and their ultimate influence on the end use properties of fabrics. In this experimental study, it has been found that with increase in TPM all the dimensional, tensile and other properties are affected significantly. Only in case of flat yarn, effect of twist on specific flexural rigidity is not significant and effect of twist on number of broken filaments in textured and intermingled yarn is also not significant.
