Characteristics of cuprammonium rayon and polyester yarn blended air textured yarn's fabrics

Cuprammonium rayon has very good surface characteristics like silk yarn. However, it is a very expensive yarn as compared to other man-made fibers. In order to reduce the cost of fabrics, in this work, cuprammonium rayon was blended in different proportions with low cost polyester yarn using air texturising process. The blended air textured yarns were used as weft and polyester/viscose yarn was used as warp in preparing the fabrics. The fabrics were evaluated for various characteristics and found that higher cuprammonium content in fabrics improves air permeability, drapability and decreases abrasion resistance and crease recovery. Therefore, cuprammonium and polyester blend proportion should be optimized based on these characteristics.
