As I write this, we are just passing the "100 day" mark of COVID-19 being declared a pandemic. In the weeks that followed the declaration, the importance of Canada Port Authorities (CPAs), already central to Canadians' quality of life, reached new heights. Despite extraordinary challenges, Canada's 17 port authorities worked diligently to ensure vital goods kept moving with virtually no disruption, all while following strict protocols to protect their employees, mariners and other workers within port communities. It is a remarkable achievement, but it's no accident. For years, Canada's ports have been reinventing themselves into world-class multimodal logistical hubs. When the pandemic hit, Canada's 17 port authorities already had in place the operational procedures, technologies, training, and infrastructure that allowed them to pivot quickly and meet the new challenges.
