The National Environmental Policy Act of 1969 committed the United States to sustainability,declaring it a national policy"to create and maintain conditions under which humans and nature can exist in productive harmony,that permitfulfilling the social,economic and other requirements of present and future generations."1 The U.S.Environmental Protection Agency(EPA)expanded the definition to includethe environmental impact of man.To help ensure a sustain-ablepresent and future,the air quality impact of industrial emissions needs to be evaluated.AERMOD is currently themain EPA-approved dispersion model for use in evaluatingthe air quality impact of industrial emissions.
