Brazil's Open Railway Museum

Rail preservationists in Brazil have unveiled a plan to preserve the history of the Sao Paulo Railway. The scheme, which has been two years in the making, would create what organisers call an Open Railway Museum (Museu Aberto da Ferrovia). The person behind the museum plan is Maria Ines Dias Mazzoco who is the Head of Heritage and Archives at the RFFSA, the former State Railway Authority. Sra. Maria Ines told Martin Cooper, 'For decades the railway in this city has signified communication, economic growth and culture. Rescuing the archives and opening up their potential to researchers in the local and international communities is the main objective. This project will also stimulate tourism and education in the greater Sao Paulo area.'
