The 50th Anniversary of the Institute of Mineralogy, Geochemistry, and Crystal Chemistry of Rare Elements

The Institute of Mineralogy, Geochemistry, and Crystal Chemistry of Rare Elements (IMGRE) celebrated its 50th anniversary in October 2006. In 1961, in connection with reorganization in the system of the USSR Academy of Sciences, the institute was transferred to the Ministry of Geology and Preservation of Mineral Resources under the scientific-methodical supervision of the USSR Academy of Sciences. The first period of activity of the institute is related to the name of K.A. Vlasov, the organizer and first director. The task put before the staff was to study the raw material base of rare elements and elucidate regularities in the formation and location of their deposits.
