1966 was an interesting year in the UK: I was born, Peter Boyce became a member of the Illuminating Engineering Society, and apparently there was an important game of football. About 30 years later I was studying for my PhD in lighting. One of the best pieces of advice I received from my supervisor was to contact Peter Boyce. My PhD involved brightness evaluation experiments and I think my supervisor had Peter's 1977 paper in mind. It was good advice: Peter helped me to develop my skills in experimental design and article writing and he later became an important advisor to my own research projects and PhD students.
