After working for most of my career in California— from the San Francisco Bay Area's traditional, sophisticated homes to Southern California's hot bed of Spanish stucco monsters—an upscale residence in Jackson Hole, Wyoming was a refreshing change, not to mention a design challenge. The clients, southern California transplants, mentally shed their Los Angeles digs and worked for two years to plan their secluded mountain retreat. This was the first time in my 20-plus years of practicing residential lighting design that clients presented a 3-inch, three-ring binder containing their vision for the home and a list of their needs prior to selecting an architect.
