Obituary

James (Jim) Richards, P.E., passed away in September. An IES member since 2009, Mr. Richards was a staff engineer in the lighting division of Underwriters Laboratories Inc. at the time of his passing. After graduating from American River College in Sacramento with an associate s degree in electronics, he obtained a B.S. in Electrical tngineering from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. More than 25 of his 36 years with UL were devoted to testing and standards development activities in the sign and lighting (luminaire) categories, such as UL 8750 (LED equipment for use in lighting products), UL 879 (electric sign components), UL 1598 (luminaires) and UL 2161 (neon transformers and power supplies).
