What is that?" a pedestrian stopped to ask architect Tushar Advani as he was tak-ing photos of Detroit's just-completed Rosa Parks Transit Center in July 2009. She was pointing to seven towering fabric canopies, high as 10-story buildings, surrounded by downtown office towers. "It's a bus station," he responded. "No, no, over there. What is it?" Advani explained to her that across the street from where they were standing was indeed the replacement forrnthe vintage outdoor Capital Park Transit Center bus station a few blocks away. "Okay, if you say so, but it really doesn't look like a bus station," she said, moving on, unconvinced. "I took her disbelief as a compliment," Advani says.
