Lighting an Industrial Museum: The July 1985 issue of LD+A focused on industrial applications and daylighting. The cover story addressed the renovation ofthe Sloss Furnace, Birmingham, AL, a major tourist attraction and evening stage/concert area. Lighting was integral, as designers wanted to emphasize the outdoor elements, while preserving a historical symbol of Alabama's steel industry. To keep energy and maintenance costs down, high-pressure sodium luminaires were used wherever possible. Flood, spotlights and high-bay industrial luminaires were also used to illuminate the larger structures.
