Emergy Advisor: Energy-Efficient Practices-Truth vs. Fiction

The October 2012 issue of Engineered Systems magazine contained an article entitled "How the Culture of Inefficiency is Outfoxing LEED, ASHRAE and Efficiency Programs" by authors from Go Sustainability Energy, an energy efficiency consulting firm in Columbus, OH. Going back over past certified buildings, the authors found that poorly performing energy projects occur because measurement and verification is not required and no one is held accountable. The facility managers for these buildings will have to make them perform more efficiently to reduce the owner's costs later on, and yet they are seldom consulted during the design process. For developers, getting a return on investment is just "breaking even," not making a profit.
