Centenary splendour

Naumburg is one of those delightful small towns which guidebooks cite as an example of the lost 'real' Germany of old. Like many in what after the end of World War Ⅱ became East Germany, it retained its skyline and character much better than those in the west. Unlike the others, however, Naumburg possessed and retained what is now a unique feature: a Ringbahn, or circular tramway line, circumnavigating the old town and connecting it with the main line railway station in the Saale valley below.
