Parry wins grant for larger railcar

Almost half the expected GBP550 000 cost of building a prototype larger Parry railcar has been awarded in a GBP247 500 UK government grant. JPM Parry and Associates sees larger railcars as an essential development following the experience gained from supporting low-cost, low-energy public transport including the introduction of Parry-built railcars on the Stourbridge Town branch line. The company also hopes its products can be supplied to the Irish government, which has been investigating operations on the Stourbridge branch. Engineers are gathering data to judge whether PPM railcars are suitable for reestablishing services on the Wa-terford to Rosslare Harbour line which recently closed because it was deemed uneconomic.
