Making predictions for the year ahead in our current chaotic world may appear bold, or some may say foolish. With this in mind (and as we enter our 84th year of publication!), our first edition of 2021 offers yet another diverse round-up of tramway and light rail projects from all four corners of the globe, but also some thoughts on where we've been and where we might be headed. The big news of course surrounds the imminent approval and roll-out of COVID-19 vaccines. While significant for us all, it is important to realise that this isn't a magic bullet and many of the current restrictions we are experiencing will be with us for some time yet. A vaccine won't undo the damage caused by the pandemic. It won't guarantee planned projects will proceed, and it won't immediately restore ridership. But it is up to us to ensure that the role of public transport as a key enabler for all is maintained, gaining a new relevance and visibility in 2020.
