Making marks in parts can lead to their being rejected before rebuilding or lead to failure of the part in subsequent use if made when it comes back from the overhaul facility. Marks or dings or dents and sometimes even scratches can lead to stress risers and eventual failure of the part. The dynamic disassembly of an engine can spoil your day.
