This book's core, as its title indicates, is the 'biblioteca romana' of Pietro Bembo 1470-1546, the doyen of Italian sixteenth-century humanistic studies. It is based on the manuscript inventory, newly and convincingly dated by Danzi 'fra la meta di aprile e la fine di maggio del 1545' and 'Notevole [...] è il fatto d'essere steso in vita del Bembo e con ogni probabilità sotto i suoi occhi' (p. 59).
