More and more city libraries offer their users the video-on-demand portal filmfriend as a separate streaming offer for films and series. In this way, they create a film-cultural counterweight to commercial streaming services and, for the first time, they achieve people who have little or no use of traditional ways of receiving films (cinema, television, DVD, etc.). With their digital film offerings, libraries facilitate access to film culture and provide constructive support for social change in the reception of films.
