A more humane space in the basement of the Walter Clinton Jackson Library at University of North Carolina (UNC)-Greens-boro is on the way, and an infusion of light may be the solution. Over its 58 years, the library, a three-story structure with accompanying nine-story stack tower, has served to accommodate a growing collection. Now library leaders seek to trim and relocate enough of the collection to provide more comfortable space for users and more effective space for services. Currently housing what library officials call "end of the run stuff" from the stack tower, the 10,500 square foot basement of the original building already presents multiple access points and could be a logical multipurpose space for services, instruction, and group study.
