Beth Elder, the director of the Salt Lake City Public Library, resigned on Friday, October 28. The eight-member library board unanimously accepted her resignation at a special meeting. In a statement, Elder said that she decided to remove herself from "the hot seat." "Being a lightning rod of controversy has detracted from the library's numerous accomplishments during the three-and-a-half years I have headed it," her statement said. "As a result, I can no longer effectively do my job of promoting and administering the Salt Lake City Public Library."
