The Shinseiko project: a new environmentally friendly steelmaking route based on scrap

Le projet « Shinseiko » est certainement le plus gros programme de recherche mondial sur l'utilisation optimale des ferrailles en sidérurgie. Lancé pour huit ans au Japon en 1991, il vise à la fois à développer des techniques nouvelles de prétraitement des ferrailles, des techniques nouvelles de préchauffage et de fusion « propre » et des méthodes d'élimination des éléments résiduels sur acier liquide. Usinor Sacilor participe à ce projet au côté de douze sociétés japonaises.%The "Shinseiko" project is probably the largest research programme in the world on the optimum use of scrap in the steel industry. It was started in 1991 for an eight years period and its aims are the development of new pretreatment techniques" of scrap, new preheating techniques and "clean" melting practices as well as the elimination of residual elements from liquid steel. Usinor Sacilor takes part in this project together with twelve Japanese companies.
