The Waste Water Index

The Waste Water Index (WWi) is a monitoring system designed to evaluate the toxicity of wastewater leaving tanneries, factories and water-treatment plants. The WWi consists of sampling wastewater at three different points of an industrial water flow. The system guarantees a comparative approach to sampling results, ultimately providing the necessary information required by CTC experts to assist suppliers in improving the quality of the wastewater rejected into the environment. Suppliers are issued with the CTC WWi quality label; brands are issued with a supplier benchmark-evaluation tool, designed to guide them in choosing the most sustainable suppliers. The sampling process is repeated over a six-month period, with regular intervals of report writing to communicate results throughout the entire evaluation period. CTC laboratories in Europe and Asia manage the sampling process with CTC WWi-approved staff and experts.
