Indian exporters fear effects of further slaughterhouse clampdowns

Indian leather exports could plummet further if the current clampdown on slaughterhouses in Uttar Pradesh extends into other states. With shipments falling by 4.37% to a value of $5.13 million between April 2016 and February 2017, some within the industry are fearful a blanket ban on abattoirs in other states, including Punjab, Bihar and West Bengal, could see manufacturers forced to cough up for imported material at much higher rates.
