Increased exports of Italian footwear

During the first nine months of 2013, the shoe production in Italy increased by 2.9% in value and + 1.4% in volume compared to the same period of 2012. But this increase will not be sufficient to offset the earlier decline in 2012 which reached -4.4%. Thanks to exports Italian shoes should manage to recover partially with an increase of +4.4% in value and +1.5% by volume. 60% of exported shoes have leather uppers an increase of +4.5% in value in one year. Seven pairs in ten are exported to Europe and it is on the French market (biggest export market for Italy) that the increase last year was the largest in Europe with + 8.6%.
