The challenges we face today are multifaceted, complex, and both local and global in scope. And they will require leadership of many kinds at all levels to bring us all through. That the varieties of leadership are many and varied is a simple truth that we at Leader to Leader have long sought to exemplify. The range of articles in this issue amply demonstrates the point.rnWarren Bennis, a legendary expert on leadership and author or coauthor of such books as Leaders: Strategies for Taking Charge, Organizing Genius, Why Leaders Can't Lead, and many others, has just published the 20th Anniversary Edition of the classic On Becoming a Leader. In this issue, he presents us with an analysis (excerpted from the new Epilogue) of the failures of leadership that have led to the current crises-and suggests the paths new leadership should take. "It is easy to forget," he writes, "that we need more than one gifted leader at a time."
