The image of the lone charismatic leader is time-honored and seductive. Yet in today's hyper-connected world, leadership success increasingly comes as a result of collaborating and making decisions with others. Thomas H. Davenport and Brook Manville found that leaders who exercised good judgment leading to successful decisions rarely acted alone. Instead, "[these leaders] have taken steps to organize and tap into broader networks, expertise, and processes of deliberation beyond themselves."
