The Southern Police Institute of University of Louisville offers a police management course designed for agencies with 60 sworn officers or less. The mid-2014 course was taught by Gil Frazier Assistant Chief (ret.), Hollywood, Fla. Police and Paul Schultz, Chief, Canon City, Colo. Police and head of Colorado POST. This course is generally held twice a year. Of the 23 attendees from 11 states, some were already in an administrative position while others were in the process for one. Regardless, the goal was to get information to have their departments run more efficiently and effectively. The attendees all had similar stories and problems at their individual departments. In big and small departments alike, law enforcement is faced with the twin challenges of dealing with the public to dealing with employees-subordinates, peers and supervisors.
