RACSA plans broadband investment

The Internet arm of state-owned telco Grupo ICE, RACSA, announced that it will invest US$360 million to develop high-speed Internet services in Costa Rica. According to RACSA chief executive Alberto Bermudez, the company plans to release 360,000 1 Gbps broadband connections by 2011. RACSA currently has around 100,000 Internet subscribers via cable modem, provided through alliances with cablecosAmnet, Cable Tica, Cable Vision, and Super Cable. The operator also serves 2,500 WiMAX users and 40,000 dialup customers.
