The total spectrum available for mobile services in Latin America could increase by a combined total of 1,556 MHz over the next two years if the tenders announced in nine separate countries are brought to completion, according to a report by industry association 5G Americas. The figure is 57 percent higher than the current available spectrum, said 5G Americas, basing its findings on the tenders announced in Colombia, Costa Rica, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Mexico, Paraguay, Uruguay and Venezuela. The majority of the tenders aim to free up spectrum for 4G use in the 700 MHz and 2.5 GHz bands to complement deployments in the AWS, 1.8 GHz, 1.9 GHz and 2.5 GHz bands, said the report, adding that the amount of spectrum released could vary depending on the final conditions of the respective tenders.
