Nextel to share spectrum with Red Intercable; Telefonica de Argentina mulling IPO

Nextel Argentina has reportedly signed a spectrum-sharing agreement with Red Intercable, a domestic cooperative comprising a number of regional cable operators. The pact, which was agreed at the behest of the government, will see wireless connectivity extended to 560 localities in the interior of the country. Locations earmarked for improved connectivity include La Pampa, Santa Fe and Cordoba. Previously, in February 2017 the National Entity for Communications (Ente Nacional de Comunicaciones, ENACOM) authorized Nextel Argentina to become the country's fourth LTE provider; the cellco will utilize its newly acquired spectrum holdings in the 900MHz and 2.5GHz bands to deploy 4G networks. Red Intercable currently represents 230 small-scale providers across 580 locations in 21 provinces. The company claims to have an addressable cable footprint of around 610,000 homes.
