Entel Chile makes first transcontinental video call on 5G network

Chilean operator Entel said the country's first transcontinental HD videoconference and live transmission over a 5G network was held between Chile and the United Kingdom at the University of Chile's 'Espacio 5G' R&D center in Santiago. The space was inaugurated last year in collaboration with Ericsson, telecommunications regulator Subtel and the University of Chile's Faculty of Physical Sciences and Mathematics (FCFM). In a statement, Entel said the test was carried out by engineers from 'Espacio 5G' and Cambridge-based loT startup Camnexus. Researchers in Santiago and Cambridge were able to follow a Massive loT simulation in real time via a 5G network connection that reached speeds of 450Mbps. A total of 200 low-consumption wireless sensors were used to measure water pressure during the trial, simultaneously delivering data to the network and live streaming video footage of detected anomalies.
