Argentina launches consultation on Arsat public cloud project

Argentina's National Office of Information Technologies (ONTI) has launched a public consultation on the proposed creation of the state-backed hybrid cloud system to be run by satellite operator Arsat. The aim is to set up a new national data center to boost the services already provided by Arsat and expand the offer to public and private companies alike. The government has already allocated over ARS 500 million to purchasing equipment for the new center and upgrading Arsat's existing facility. In a statement, the head of Public Innovation, Micaela Sanchez Malcolm, described the state investment in the Arsat Data Centre as the first step in the development of a state-of-the-art national cloud ecosystem. Interested parties have 30 business days to submit "contributions, ideas, experiences and recommendations" on the hybrid cloud project, part of the government's 'Plan Conectar' program.
