Chilean postpay contracts up 12% to over 13 million in 2019

The number of Chileans subscribed to postpay contracts surged by 11.6 percent year on year in 2019 to reach 13.4 million in December, according to the latest data from telecom regulator Subtel. After surpassing the prepay segment for the first time in the third quarter, postpay subscriptions now account for 53.6 percent of the country's 25.0 million mobile lines, with prepay lines declining 11.5 percent to 11.6 million. Subtel also revealed that the number of 4G-LTE connections in Chile reached 16.5 million at the end of December 2019, while mobile penetration (3G+4G) increased from 95.7 percent to 98.3 percent over the 12-month period.
