NATURAL WATER AS CULTURAL WATER/A 30-YEAR PLAN FOR WABASH RIVER CORRIDOR IN LAFAYETTE

Today, the Wabash River, which divides Lafayette and West Lafayette, Indiana, is not much of a recreational draw. Daniel Xu, Student ASLA, a student at Purdue University, has some ideas for restoring natural systems on the site and controlling flooding. A railroad divides the river from Lafayette; Xu proposes a series of pedestrian bridges that would connect riverside wetlands to the city. A new mixed-use development on a thin sliver of land between the railroad and the river would help to fund the riverfront improvements.
