摘要

The relocation of the beloved Barnes Foundation from its original home in suburban Merion, Pennsylvania, to central Philadelphia has been one of the most visible and controversial museum projects of the past decade. The museum, founded in 1922, is now just to the east of the Rodin Museum in a new building by Tod Williams Billie Tsien Architects. OLIN collaborated with Williams and Tsien in the site planning and design of the new Barnes. Though the new museum is clearly a 21st-century building, OLIN's landscape ties it back to Paul Philippe Cret and Jacques Greber and to the landscape of the original Merion museum, also designed by Cret. The new building, its landscape, and its context on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway are so well integrated that it seems as though they have always been there.
