摘要

This once errant creek is home again, traveling in its natural streambed. It's now flowing where it should flow instead of cutting through sand and gravel pits. No longer will it flush sediment into the Escambia River and eventually the Escambia Bay nor damage the aquatic life and habitat along its winding course in Alabama and Florida. The creek has been chastened by a most impressive channel relocation. This nearly $7 million aquatic ecosystem restoration project is considered the largest such project ever done east of the Mississippi River. Included in the benefits is the restoration of 1,000 acres of riverine wetland and surrounding freshwater marsh and forest. This once diverse healthy bottomland habitat is returning to its original natural condition.
