Harbor Springs subdivision in Illinois was built with little thought given to open space and natural areas. Prior to development, the entire area, including the wetland, was farmed. The development surrounds the once farmed wetland; this wetland is used in the storm water management system. Turf grasses had been planted up to the edge of the pond, so as usual there was an eroding shoreline and poor water quality. The adjacent open spaces consisted of high maintenance and low quality lawns.
