Muck and Gunk

Ponds and lakes of all sizes, both man-made and natural, commonly experience seasonal accumulations of mineral and organic sediments, which over time can cause significant problems. Poor erosion control practices contribute to this on-going accumulation, as do the natural build-up of decaying vegetative material. The sediment build-up reduces the volume of water that a pond can hold as well as decreases its depth.
