Slope Stabilization Along Roadsides in West Virginia Mountains

West Virginia has spectacular mountain scenery, but its roadways can be dangerous because roads wind up and down steep hills and around difficult curves. Motor vehicle accidents are the third leading cause of death in West Virginia. With a long history, the four-lane divided highway called Corridor H cuts its way across the terrain of eastern West Virginia. The location for a 100-mile long segment between Elkins and the Virginia State line was approved by the Federal Highway Administration (FWHA) with a goal of creating a safer passage across the Appalachian region.
